This is a model of the little eco village called Harmony. The town has lots of trees and cute little cottages. The trees provide lots of shading, even in the hot climate of southern Mississippi. Also, since the community is very compact, everything is in walking distance. There is also a variety in living compartments, with houses, townhouses, and apartment buildings, thereby catering to various tastes in living. The little eco village also has gardens that the community uses to grow its own food and be self-sufficient. Next, because the community is so compact and uses gardens, there is a small ecological footprint. Harmony residents also compost, recycle waste water, and use solar panels and photovoltaic cells. There is open space for small children and animals to play, and bicycles and carpooling is most definitely encouraged. Children learn to help keep up the garden. Most surprisingly for some about this little community, is also the use of nuclear power. The residents of Harmony discovered a way to harvest the power of nuclear energy, while safely disposing of toxic waste. Because of this newly harvested power, Harmony residents have extremely energy efficient systems in their homes. The city of Hattiesburg is responsible for a lot of Harmony’s infrastructure, because there was a unanimous decision that extending roads and lines and sewage systems to Harmony will help provide jobs for both residents of Harmony and Hattiesburg. This little eco village is paving the way for sustainable communities all over the Deep South!
