jaymie smith cotton district

Yesterday we visited the Cotton District in Starkvillle and it was small, quaint, and quite inviting. It was a community that is walkable and is on it way to being completely sustainable. The houses were all small and centered around down town, within walking range. there were shaded alleys in which any person in the community is welcome to walk though and gather in courtyards shared by surrounding neighbors. The area was small yet big enough that you could enjoy your time there. The houses located around these courtyards don't have large yards but do have front pouches with enough space to cookout or have a small gathering on. we also meet with Dan Camp, the former, major. He told us about the Cotton Districts history and how he started it. He also described how Starkville, a college town, should benefit from the Cotton District.
