Meghin Neal's Log :
Cotton District Tour :
The Cotton District is very beautiful. I like how the buildings have a European touch. They were all bold colors and shapes. The district is very convenient and interesting. All of the stores and buildings were in walking distance. That cuts down on a lot of automobile usage. Even though our trip was kind of short; I enjoyed seeing all the diversity. The mayor said that there aren’t many places like that in the state of Mississippi and I believe them. Why, because some people are too scared to take a risk and try something different. Starkville has produced a friendly and loving environment for people of all ages to enjoy.
The District also uses materials from buildings that are no longer in usage which is great for the environment. They used pillars from an old building and used them in the construction of a new building. I also like the fact that a lot of the things they use to construct the buildings are made right in Starkville. Overall I had a great time visiting this area.
Cotton District Street Art Feedback:
I think the street art will be very helpful to the community. This will leave a mark on visitor’s minds when they visit. They will always remember that the Cotton District has art on the streets. Now that Taze has said what the work of art represents; I really think this would be a great idea. For example, maybe one day someone will feel kind of depressed and they will look at the art and remember what it means. Then maybe that person won’t be so down anymore because they will know that they have someone in their community that they can talk to. This piece will be reassurance that the Cotton District wants to move forward and better their town. Plus Thats a street that is pretty popular and there are residents there. This piece could make a driver slow down because they would think of the representation of the art piece.
