Narrative About SketchUp Community
I have designed a community where
cars are seldom used and trees line the streets, filled with pedestrian
traffic, where neighbors pleasantly chat while strolling to the grocery store
only a few minutes’ walk away. Residents can walk their dog to the dog park
nearby, or go to eat at the resturaunts within the community. Houses are kept
cool with the use of sunlight and underground heat sinks that are used to heat
water or keep the house comfortable during the winter months. Solar panels will
eventually be built on the roof to contribute power to the residents and reduce
their energy use, in addition to an energy generating structure that uses the
trimmings that are taken from the many trees and other flora in the community
to generate energy. Rather than shipping wastewater elsewhere to be treated,
high efficiency “Living Machines” will be used to treat water which could be
used for other purposes instead of being wasted. The vegetation lining the
streets or in the garden’s around people’s homes can produce food to reduce the
amount that needs to be shipped in from elsewhere. In addition, the grocery
store and the restaurants that are in the community could buy mostly local
food, or grow there own. Increasing not only energy consumption, but also food
quality, and health of the residents.
