Touring the Cotton District in Starkville, Mississippi was an eye-opening experience. I was amazed by how many different attractions were available within such a small confinement. The small community fused personal space in a professional atmospheres and still managed to integrate a sense of leisure into their environment. Most of the business owners lived directly above their shop, resulting in a short commute up and down the stairs to get to work. The beautiful architecture displayed throughout the community is essential for drawing people together. The small pubs and boutique's create a cozy environment with ample opportunities for socialism. Many of the streets in the Cotton District are solid brick, establishing a personal relationship with the town. There are community gardens for each neighborhood and strategically located stone sculptures catching the eye's of tourist driving by. I absolutely adored touring the Cotton District. I severely believe that more towns should resurrect their communities into a similar fashion.
